Welcome to the Standing Committee on Public Transport

 


The committee shall develop all major standards and recommend policies for:
  • Public transportation programs
  • Urban and rural mass transit
  • Commuter rail
  • Intercity bus
  • Ridesharing
  • Paratransit
and specialized transit facilities for the elderly and handicapped; and shall investigate available data, and disseminate information to Member Departments; collect information on new and improved equipment and practices that will enhance operational aspects; and operate a forum to exchange information.

Report: U.S. public transit growth continued in first quarter


Public transportation ridership increased again in the first quarter of the year, with 11 public transit systems showing records. Commuters took nearly 2.7 billion trips, an increase of 5 percent over the same time last year, according to a report released today by the American Public Transportation Association. It was the fifth consecutive quarter with a public transit ridership increase. Light rail use increased by 6.7 percent, and heavy rail use went up by 5.5 percent.
